We're closing the year with a release that focuses on making your experience in Better Studio more intuitive, flexible, and visually refined. Version 3.14 introduces improvements that simplify project setup and give you greater control over how you work with data and Studio versions.

A new project setup wizard is here!​

The new Project setup wizard transforms how you create and configure projects in Better Studio. Instead of manually defining servers and authorisation settings, we now provide a guided, dialog-based experience that ensures all critical steps are completed correctly.

Previously, creating a project meant manual server definitions, often leading to missed steps or inconsistent setups. The new wizard now:

  • Consolidates everything into one guided process, reducing complexity.
  • Supports two authorisation types, making it scalable for enterprise use.
  • Introduces real-time validation and feedback, so you know immediately if the credentials or service connections are correct.
  • Improves transparency with clear indicators for connection status and service versions.

Step-by-step flow​

The wizard uses a BDS stepper to guide you through your new project creation. For basic authorisation, the process is two-step. For OAuth authorisation, it expands to three steps, adding a dedicated Better Services configuration stage.

  • OAuth authorisation: Selecting OAuth dynamically adds fields for provider details (URL, Provider ID) and resizes the dialog to accommodate the additional step.

Integrated Better Services setup​

During OAuth flows, you can connect to multiple Better Services directly in the new wizard. Each service displays a connection status indicator (grey before testing, updated after validation) and the version information once it's successfully connected.

The wizard enforces input completeness and connection testing before enabling the "Create project" or "Continue" button, reducing the risk of misconfiguration.

Refined version switcher​

Staying aligned with Better Studio’s release cycle can be challenging, especially if your organisation works on longer review periods. With four Studio versions released each year, adapting quickly is essential to avoid compatibility issues, particularly when Studio and Form Renderer versions are out of sync. Mismatched versions can lead to broken forms and unnecessary troubleshooting.

The new version switcher addresses this by introducing a controlled, transparent way to move between supported Studio versions in production. From version 3.14 onwards, you will see permanent notifications on your dashboard whenever a new major or minor version becomes available, or when support for your current version is about to expire. These alerts make it clear when action is needed, reducing the risk of running on unsupported versions.

How does it work?​

Switching itself happens through a dedicated modal window:

  1. Navigate to My Account → Studio Settings.
  2. Open the Switch Studio Version modal.

  1. Select the desired version from the dropdown:
  • The latest version is marked as (Latest).
  • Older versions display a warning about potential file compatibility issues.

  1. Click Switch to confirm.
  2. Refresh your browser to apply the change.

If you choose an older version, files created in newer versions may not behave as expected. This safeguard ensures that switching is deliberate, not accidental. Version data is managed through a /settings/versions endpoint and YAML configuration, so environments remain consistent.

When a new version of Better Studio is installed, you’ll see a notification explaining which Form Renderer version it supports. If your Form Renderer is behind, you can either update it or switch Studio back to a previous version to maintain stability. This transparency helps prevent the common pitfalls of mismatched versions.

  • Existing projects you added to Better Studio, but don't want to collaborate on anymore, can now be removed from the Recent Projects list directly.

Form builder​

  • Thumbnail image of uploaded files is now always visible.
  • When creating a duplicate from the form's version history now duplicates labels as well.
  • Interactive area colour now matches the selected colour.
  • Generic quantity field now accepts comma or dot for adding decimal places in validation to units.
