Advanced Studio

info

This content is intended for advanced Studio users.

The Advanced Studio section is a deep-dive reference for experienced Better Studio users. It covers everything you need to integrate and customise Form renderer, the JavaScript library that renders forms built in Better Studio inside your own application.

Prerequisites: Before using this section, complete Build in Studio and Connect in Studio. This section builds on the introductory coverage in those sections.

Form renderer is a Web Components library. Once integrated, rendering a form requires passing your EHR server URL, credentials, and a form name to the library. Form renderer fetches and renders the form, handles composition saving and loading, and exposes a programmatic API for runtime interaction.

What this section covers

This section is structured around the full integration lifecycle:

  • Configuration: How to configure renderer behaviour through EhrFormContext, handle events, and pass external variables from your application into forms.
  • Customisation: How to apply themes, override CSS variables, and write custom style rules.
  • Framework guides: Integration instructions for framework-agnostic (plain JavaScript), Angular, React, and Vue applications, including setup, usage, and interaction patterns for each.
  • Offline mode: Installation and use of offline Form renderer.
  • Script API: The full programmatic API for interacting with rendered forms at runtime, including method reference, type definitions, and accepted values.
  • Widget development: How to build custom widgets for use inside Form renderer.
  • Localisation: How to override UI strings and add custom translations.
  • CSP configuration — how Form renderer handles Content Security Policy and what you need to know when deploying in CSP-enforced environments.

Who this section is for

This section is for advanced users embedding Form renderer into a clinical application. Familiarity with JavaScript and your chosen front-end framework is assumed. Knowledge of openEHR and Better Studio form structure is helpful but not required for integration.

If you are building forms rather than integrating them, start with Form builder instead.
