Testing and deploying

info

This content progresses from beginner to advanced Studio user knowledge.

This section covers everything that happens after you save a form version in Form builder: Testing it, validating it, making it available for use in a live application, and integrating it with your front-end code.

If you have not yet completed Build in Studio, start there first. This section assumes you have at least one saved form version to work with.

Testing and deployment environments

Studio provides three environments for working with a form at different stages of its lifecycle.

Preview opens from within Form builder. It reflects the form you are currently editing and updates in real time as you make changes. Use Preview to test your form's layout, logic, and validation behaviour during development.

Form playground is a standalone testing environment, separate from the editor. Here, you can select any form and any saved version in your project, test it with real or simulated data, and validate it before activation. Use Form Playground when you want to test a form independently of the editor, compare versions, or run a more structured quality check.

Form renderer is the production deployment mechanism. It is a JavaScript library you install into your clinical application. Once integrated, it fetches your active form from the EHR Server and renders it for end users. Form Renderer is covered in the advanced subsections of this section.

good to know

Better Portal is a end-user portal that's rendered with Form renderer. It is an example of how your patient and medical staff would see and use apps, forms, summaries, and dashboards created with Better Studio.
