Browsing and installing content

info

This content is intended for all Studio users.

The Marketplace library holds widgets, forms, templates, AQL views, and bundles that you can search, preview, and install into your Studio projects. This page walks you through each step from finding the right content to keeping it up to date.

good to know

To install content to a private library on Marketplace, you must be a licensed user and signed in to your Marketplace account. Select Sign in from the top right of the Marketplace screen and use your Studio credentials. If a Marketplace account does not exist for your credentials, one is created automatically.

Searching and filtering content

When you open the Marketplace, all available content is displayed by default. Use the following controls to narrow your search.

Search bar: Enter a name, keyword, or clinical term. The search runs across content names, descriptions, and tags. For example, searching for NEWS2 returns widgets, forms, and AQL views that include NEWS2 in their metadata.

Content type filter: Select a content type tab to show only widgets, forms, templates, bundles, AQL views, plugins, or apps. This is the fastest way to scope your search if you know what kind of asset you need.

Keywords and tags: Contributors apply 5–10 keywords to each item to support discoverability. If your initial search returns too many results, try refining with a more specific clinical or technical term.

good to know

If you are installing a widget during form building, open the Marketplace directly from the Generics panel → Widgets tab in the Form builder. You can search and install from there without navigating away from your form.

Understanding content detail pages

Selecting any item in the Marketplace opens its detail page. Each detail page contains the same set of tabs.

What's New: A summary of changes introduced in the current version, and a full version history with changelogs. Check this tab before installing to understand what has changed between versions.

Description: An overview of the content's purpose, intended use, and scope. For forms, templates, and bundles, this tab also includes clinical context, misuse guidance, and the archetypes used. For widgets, it includes required input data, configuration options, and dependencies.

Documentation: Structured reference documentation provided by the contributor. For complex content, this may include step-by-step build guidance, implementation notes, or links to external resources. This tab supports Markdown formatting.

The Name, Contributor, Version, Date of publishing, and Latest update fields appear in the header or sidebar of the detail page for all content types.

Installing a widget

You can install a widget from the Marketplace home screen or from the Widgets tab in the Form builder's Generics panel.

  1. Find the widget you want to install. Use the search bar or the Widgets filter to locate it.
  2. Open the widget's detail page and review the Description and Documentation tabs to confirm it is appropriate for your use case.
  3. Select Install. The widget is added to the installed widgets list and becomes available in the Generics panel of the Form builder.
  4. If the widget has presets, you are given the option to select a preset during or after installation. See the Widget presets section for more detail.

Once installed, drag and drop the widget onto the form canvas in the Form builder. Configure it using the Widget configurator in the property panel.

warning

When you add a widget to the canvas, the latest published version is selected automatically. If a newer version becomes available after you have placed the widget, a notification icon appears on the canvas. See Updating content to a newer version below.

Installing templates, forms, AQL views, and bundles

The installation flow for other content types follows the same pattern as widgets.

  1. Find the item you want to install. Use the content type filter to scope your search.
  2. Open the detail page and review the content before installing.
  3. Select Install.

Templates are installed as filesets — bundled together with the archetypes they depend on. You do not need to import the template and archetypes separately.

Forms are installed into your Studio project. After installation, the form is available for you to open, adapt, and build on in the Form builder.

AQL views are installed and become available in the AQL builder and as data sources in your data connectors. You can use them directly or adapt the query for your specific project.

Bundles install all included assets at once — forms, widgets, AQL views, and any supporting templates. After installation, each included asset is available individually in its respective area of Studio.

Managing installed content

To see the widgets you have installed, open the Form builder and go to the Generics panel → Installed tab. This shows all widgets that have been installed to your Studio environment, regardless of which project you are working in.

For other content types, installed assets appear directly in their respective areas of Studio: Forms in the project's form list, AQL views in the AQL builder, and so on.

From the installed view, you can:

  • Edit presets: Modify saved widget configurations. Changes are visible to all members of the library. See the Widget presets section for full guidance.
  • Edit documentation: Update the description or documentation for content in your library. Note that this edits the shared library record, not a local copy.
  • Uninstall: Remove the content from your installed list. This does not delete the content from the Marketplace.

Updating content to a newer version

When a newer version of an installed widget becomes available, a green notification icon appears on the widget on the form canvas. To update:

  1. Select the widget on the canvas.
  2. In the property panel, locate the Widget version section.
  3. Select the latest version from the dropdown.
good to know

Always use the latest version of a widget unless you have a specific reason to use an older one. Using an older version is possible but not recommended, as newer versions typically include bug fixes, performance improvements, and additional configuration options.

For non-widget content types, check the What's New tab on the Marketplace detail page to see whether a newer version is available. Reinstalling an item installs the latest version.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

How do I find a widget for a specific clinical purpose?

Use the search bar with a clinical term (for example, vital signs, NEWS2, or BMI) or browse the Widgets tab. The keywords and tags applied by contributors are designed to support clinical as well as technical search terms.

Can I preview content before installing it?

Yes. Select any item to open its detail page. The Description and Documentation tabs provide full information about the content's purpose, scope, and behaviour. Some items also include preview screenshots.

What happens if I install a widget and it does not appear in the Generics panel?

After installation, widgets appear in the Installed tab of the Generics panel. If you do not see the widget there, try refreshing your session. If the problem persists, check whether you are signed in to the Marketplace.

Can I install the same widget more than once?

No. Each widget can only be installed once per Studio environment. If you want to use the same widget in a different configuration, use presets to save and reuse different configurations of the same widget.

What does installing a bundle include?

Installing a bundle installs all included assets (forms, widgets, AQL views, and templates) at once. Each asset also exists as a standalone Marketplace item, so you can install individual components without the full bundle if needed.

Can I use an older version of a widget?

Yes. In the Widget version section of the property panel, you can select an older version from the dropdown. This is not recommended unless you have a specific reason, as older versions may have known issues or lack functionality available in the latest release.

Will editing documentation in the Marketplace affect others in my library?

Yes. Documentation and preset edits you make in the Marketplace are shared with all members of the library. This is intentional — the Marketplace is a shared resource. If you need to work on documentation privately before publishing, draft your changes outside the Marketplace and upload the final version.
