Widget presets
This content is intended for all Studio users.
Presets are saved widget configurations. They capture the settings, data mappings, and any supporting content you have configured for a widget and store them as a named configuration. This can be then reused within your own projects, or shared with others via the Marketplace.
Presets reduce setup time by letting you skip repetitive configuration steps. Rather than configuring a widget from scratch each time you add it to a form, you select a preset and the widget arrives pre-configured and ready to use.
What presets are
When you place a widget on the form canvas, you configure it using the Widget configurator. This includes settings such as display mode, data mappings, AQL views, API calls, and risk thresholds. Once you have configured a widget the way you want it, you can save that configuration as a preset.
A preset captures:
- All configuration settings defined in the Widget configurator
- Any supporting content the configuration depends on, such as AQL views or API calls
Presets are stored against the widget in the Marketplace library, not against a specific project or form. This means they are available to everyone who has access to the same library.
Presets are specific to the widget they were created for. A preset saved for one widget cannot be applied to a different widget.
Saving a configuration as a preset
You can save a preset from the Marketplace or from the Widget configurator in the Form builder.
From the Marketplace:
- Open the Marketplace and locate the widget.
- Open the widget's detail page.
- Select the option to create or edit presets.
- Configure the settings you want to save.
- Name the preset and save it.
From the Form builder:
- Place the widget on the canvas and configure it using the Widget configurator.
- Once the configuration is complete, select Save as preset from the widget options.
- Name the preset and confirm. The preset is saved to the Marketplace library the widget belongs to.
If the widget configuration uses an AQL view or API call, you can include these as supporting content within the preset so that they are available to anyone who selects it.
Presets are saved to the library, not to your local project. As soon as you save a preset, it is visible to all members of that library. Ensure the configuration is complete and accurate before saving.
Setting a default preset
If a widget has multiple presets, you can designate one as the default. When a user installs the widget and places it on the canvas, the default preset is applied automatically.
To set a default preset:
- Open the Marketplace and locate the widget.
- Open the widget's detail page and navigate to the presets section.
- Select the preset you want to make the default.
- Select Set as default.
The default preset is indicated in the preset list. Any user who subsequently installs the widget will have this preset applied on first use, though they can change it at any time.
Setting a default preset is a library-level action. The change is immediately visible to all library members.
Uploading a preset to the Marketplace
If you have saved a preset locally in the Form builder and want to make it available to others, you can upload it to the Marketplace.
- Open the Marketplace and locate the widget the preset belongs to.
- Open the widget's detail page.
- Select the option to add or manage presets.
- Upload the preset file or select the locally saved configuration.
- Name the preset, add any supporting content it depends on, and save.
For presets that use AQL views or API calls as supporting content, include those dependencies when uploading. This ensures that users who select the preset have everything they need to use it without additional setup.
Selecting a preset when installing a widget
When you install a widget that has one or more presets, you can select a preset as part of the installation flow.
- Open the Marketplace and locate the widget.
- Select Install.
- If presets are available, a preset selection step appears. Review the available presets and select the one that best matches your use case.
- Complete the installation.
Once the widget is installed and placed on the canvas, the selected preset is applied. You can adjust the configuration at any time using the Widget configurator.
If you install a widget without selecting a preset, the widget arrives with the default preset applied (if one has been set), or with no pre-filled configuration if no default exists.
Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What is a widget preset?
A preset is a saved configuration for a widget. It stores the settings and supporting content, such as AQL views or API calls, that you have defined in the Widget configurator, so you can reuse them without reconfiguring from scratch.
Can I create a preset without uploading it to the Marketplace?
You can save a configuration locally during form building, but to make a preset available to others or to persist it beyond a single session, it must be saved to the Marketplace library. Presets are library resources, not project-specific files.
Will other library members see my preset as soon as I save it?
Yes. Presets are stored at the library level and are immediately visible to all members of that library once saved.
Can I edit a preset after saving it?
Yes. Open the widget's detail page in the Marketplace, navigate to the presets section, and select the preset you want to update. Make your changes and save. The updated preset is immediately available to library members.
What happens if I install a widget but skip the preset selection step?
If the widget has a default preset, it is applied automatically. If no default has been set, the widget is placed on the canvas without any pre-filled configuration.
Can two presets for the same widget have different AQL views as supporting content?
Yes. Each preset can have its own supporting content, including different AQL views or API calls. When a user selects a preset, the supporting content associated with that preset is included.
Can I delete a preset from the Marketplace?
This is only possible in a private library. Preset management, including deletion, is carried out from the widget's detail page in the Marketplace. If you need to remove a preset that you do not have permission to delete, contact marketplace@better.care.
