Better Studio 3.17 Release notes

3.17.0 (8.7.2026)​

Better Studio 3.17 introduces our AI assistant Bea, along with an upgrade of AI capabilities in AQL builder. We are expanding user management options to better align with users' and admins' needs, as well as adding a new way to request new resources on Marketplace.

Better Studio 3.17.0 is compatible with Form renderer version 3.17.0.

Studio 3.13 and earlier versions are no longer supported, for both cloud-based and on-premise Studio setups. These versions no longer receive updates, security patches, or support. Release notes for unsupported versions remain available in our documentation.

Check for any compatibility issues before upgrading, and make sure to move to a supported Studio release as soon as possible. See Studio versioning for supported versions and upgrade guidance.

We continue to support a year's worth of Studio releases: Studio 3.14, 3.15, 3.16, and 3.17.

Studio​

Meet Bea, your AQL assistant​

The AI assistant built into AQL builder now has an established name: Bea. More powerful and intuitive than before, Bea ships in Studio 3.17 with improvements to query generation, performance, and handling of complex inputs.

Bea now also returns JS Views. For queries that need more than one AQL, Bea can combine them into a JS View and return JavaScript instead of a single AQL query.

If you rely on any logic that expects a single AQL block, check that it still behaves as expected, as straightforward queries still get standard single-AQL output.

Expanded user and organisation management​

User management for Studio projects has so far been about administrators taking care of admins and members within single projects, which simply meant they make sure the right users were part of the right projects.

With Studio 3.17, organisation management groups projects and users under a shared organisation, so day-to-day access can be handled by an organisation admin rather than routing every change through Studio support.

Organisation users can be easily assigned, created, activated and deactivated on specific projects. The project roles of admins and members are unchanged.

Suggest a resource for the public Marketplace library​

You can now suggest a new Marketplace resource without leaving Studio or needing to contact our support team. You can now simply select Suggest resource in Marketplace, fill in the short form, and we will take it from there.

  • Fixed an issue where the from/to date filters were not applying correctly in Administration.

  • Fixed an issue where dragging a field onto an occupied grid cell would move the existing field instead of keeping it in place.
  • Year range selection now works correctly for partial date fields with labels.

  • Data connectors now support a File/Binary request body, letting an uploaded file be sent as the raw request body (for example, to a FHIR Binary endpoint).

Form renderer​

  • Fixed validation of partial date fields with labels: year, month, and day are now checked against the configured range and calendar, with invalid values kept in the field and flagged with an error.
  • Improved performance by using HTTP ETags to avoid re-transferring unchanged resource server responses.

  • Fixed an issue where optional fields inside a non-mandatory container could cause the form to be incorrectly reported as invalid using the validateForm(false) Script API function.

  • Fixed padding of partial date fields.
  • Fixed an issue where a stack layout kept its spacing when all of its fields were hidden; the layout now collapses when empty.

  • Fixed an issue where the login button on the registration form did not work.

  • Adjusted the styling of the search input in the AQL builder's predefined object panel.

  • Fixed an issue where widgets inside a column list with a grid layout were misaligned.

Form renderer​

  • Fixed an issue where expression string literals containing non-latin characters were not evaluated correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where numeric inputs did not respect the configured decimal separator.
  • Fixed an issue where a service worker synthetic 504 response for a blocked request could be mistaken for a live server error, preventing automatic retry.
